*Update May 7th, 2012: a few spots remain*
Join us for a special hike! We're going to give back something to the trails we often use and love. This time, in addition to hiking, we're going to clean up some of the trash that other hikers have left behind.
Some of you have been to beautiful Mundy Park in Coquitlam. For those who haven't, it is mostly a large second grown wilderness park containing several kilometers of trails and two lakes. The park is quite clean and the public trails are well maintained.
What is less known is that there are many kilometers of hidden back trails that need some clean up as the park staff do not go there. The trails are made by mountain bikers. Lead by Mokuyokai Board member David, we're going to hike these trails. On the trails we will watch for, and pick up garbage. We will also watch for Douglas squirrels, trillium flowers, and other wild and plantlife.
After the hike, we'll go to Original Joe's Pub for something to eat and drink.
Date and Time: Saturday, May 12, 2012. 11am - 3:30pm
Meetup Location: LougheedSkytrain Station. East exit at 11:00 am
Hike Difficulty: Easy
Mundy Park map: http://www.caw2200.ca/Files/Recreation/Softball/2010/MundyParkMap1-3.pdf (although the trails we are going on won't be marked)
What to bring: two empty plastic supermarket grocery bags, pair of garden gloves or winter gloves that you don't mind getting dirty, lunch, snacks, water, boots (there will be mud), change of shoes, warm jacket, cash.
Cost
Fee: None for all participants, but please pay your driver some gas money.
Car Pooling
We will arrange car-pooling from Lougheed Skytrain Station. It works on a first come, first serve basis (i.e., if someone RSVPs and can drive 3 people, the first three people who sign up get a lift.) Please give your driver $5-10 for gas and their time. Drivers will return you to Loughheed Station. Drivers are usually in short supply, so if you can drive, it is appreciated.
RSVP to Michael Marland (hike@mokuyokai.bc.ca or reply to this email) by Thursday, May 10th. No verbal RSVPs, please.
Please indicate:
1) Are you a Mokuyokai member or JETAA?
