Thirty years ago, a few Canadians who had spent time in Japan met in a local pub to reminisce about Japan. Like so many others, they had formed a strong bond to Japan and wanted to share their experiences with likeminded people. They met on a Thursday and then another... and the Vancouver Mokuyokai Society (Mokuyokai literally means 'Thursday Society') was born.

They met on a Thursday and then another... and the Vancouver Mokuyokai Society (Mokuyokai literally means 'Thursday Society') was born.
The tradition of meeting friends old and new, sharing experiences from Japan or learning about Japanese culture continues. Over 30 years, the Vancouver Mokuyokai Society has grown into a vibrant group and 1000s of people have attended a Donwakai (pub night), hike, brown bag lunch, ohanami or other events.
The Society has changed since 1982; it was founded as a business-oriented group and now is more socially inclined. One thing has not changed: the contribution of Board members, volunteers, members and non-members alike has kept the Society going strong. And in this 30th year, the Vancouver Mokuyokai Society would like to celebrate 30 great years by gathering Mokuyokai members old and new. It is with great pleasure that we thus invite you to Mokuyokai's 30th Anniversary Celebration Dinner on Thursday, November 1st at the Vancouver Marriott Pinnacle Hotel.
At this night, we'll have a reception, dinner, speeches and a slideshow presentation. You will meet Mokuyokai members and friends from the past and present. Join us as we share memories, laughs and meet old and new friends. If you were connected with Mokuyokai this year, 5 years ago, 20 years ago or anytime in Mokuyokai's 30 years, we'd love to see you at this event! Members and non-members are welcome and we encourage you to share this invitation with anyone you think might be interested. Thank you for 30 years of support! We look forward to celebrating this special milestone with many of you.
