The Donwakai is Mokuyokai's monthly pub night of networking, laughter and fun that brings together those who have a shared interest in Japan-Canada relations.
At the Donwakai, you will meet approximately 50 people who have a strong connection to Japan: teachers, travellers, students, business people and others from Canada, Japan and elsewhere. You don't have to speak Japanese to attend this event, but you should have a strong interest in or connection to Japan. Most of our participants have lived or travelled in Japan at some point in their lives. We're also introducing one Japanese-only table and one English-only table (the rest of the tables are whatever the participants are speaking).

The atmosphere is casual and feel free to invite a friend. The Donwakai is on the 2nd floor – come in through the main entrance on Smithe Street and watch for the notices. In order to keep the Donwakai going strong, participants are required to order something off the menu (minimum of $5 before taxes and gratuities) but we'll still provide some appetizers. On Thursdays, Ceilis has two fab deals: $5 Fish 'n Chips and $5 Keith's Pints. The Fish 'n Chips are especially popular. Don't forget your ID and please remember to tip your server.

Recently, the number of participants has been over 75 and the Donwakai has lasted well beyond 8pm. Thank-you for your tremendous support.
At the April Donwakai only, a representative from the Japanese consulate will be on hand to discuss different scholarships offered by the Japanese government. We'll also have a Japanese only table and an English only table for those wanting to practice Japanese or English (the rest are whatever language participants would like to speak).
